The nuts: reading the board in three seconds

The nuts is the best hand the board allows anyone to have. Not the best hand you can imagine — the best hand that is mathematically available given those cards in the middle.

Learning to see it instantly is the closest thing to a superpower a beginner can pick up, because it answers the only question that matters when someone bets at you: how badly can I be beaten right now? Without it you're guessing at ghosts. With it, "this board looks scary" becomes "the nuts is a king-high straight, it requires exactly a ten, and I hold one of the four tens."

Here's the good news. The board can only produce a big hand three ways. Learn to spot those three features and you've learned the whole skill.
